It is no secret that Indians have a great sweet tooth. A plethora of excellent sweet dishes originate from India, and many of them have gained a good level of popularity in other countries as well. Indian sweets in Australia are specially purchased and enjoyed not just by the NRIs residing there, but also several foreigners.

Here are some of the Indian sweet dishes that people must try out:

  • Gulab Jamun: Balls made of khoya fried in oil until they are golden brown and then dipped in sugary syrup, Gulab Jamun is a staple of almost all festivals in India.
  • Shrikand: Referred to Green Yogurt at times, this creamy and velvety dessert is made up of strained yoghurt, cardamom, sugar, and saffron. People can easily buy Indian shrikhand in Australia as well, from any of the major brands selling Indian sweets in the country.
  • Kulfi: Often considered to be the Indian version of ice cream, khulfi is made from whole fat milk, powdered sugar, cardamom powder and tends to come in a variety of delectable flavours like kesar and mango.
  • Gajar ka halwa: A hot favourite in Indian households, the mouthwatering taste of gajar ka halwa is sure to impress all. Due to its high popularity, gajar halwa in Australia has been made available by certain brands.
  • Milk peda: Made with paneer or khoya, condensed milk, pistachio, cardamom powder, saffron and ghee, this sweet is commonly enjoyed during the festival of Diwali.
People may either purchase some of these sweets from Australia based Indian food brands, or prepare them at home after buying the needed ingredients.
